 The inaugural publication from The Pursuit of History

 

 

Background

In the Spring of 2024, we held the first in our series of Pursuit of History Weekends on the founding of our nation 250 years ago. The Pursuit of History: Rebellion in New England, focused on the events of 1774 and took place at Washington’s Headquarters in Cambridge.

For this event, Program Director J. L. Bell authored a first-of-its-kind timeline of events in 1774 that focused on the brewing conflict over the governance of the English colonies in North America. This timeline stands apart in its coverage of often overlooked events, opinions, and actions—on both sides of the Atlantic.

The Pursuit of History | Rebellion in New England — 1774

Based on the overwhelmingly positive response to Rebellion in New England—and the timeline that was developed for it—we are expanding the materials into a full-color publication unlike anything else available today. The timeline will be supplemented with background information and commentary written by John Bell.

Partnering with designer and archivist Michelle D. Novak, MLIS, this publication will include a visually rich timeline featuring primary source manuscripts, documents, maps, and engravings. These will express first-person voices and provide documentary evidence for the events as they happened.
