Initiatives

In March 2014, Founder Lee Wright organized the first history “unconference” in Cambridge, Massachusetts, called History Camp. Over the next decade, History Camps expanded, welcoming thousands of history enthusiasts from all walks of life for a day of learning from others and sharing what they’ve learned.

In March 2020, we began a weekly discussion series with noted authors and historians. These are streamed every Thursday night at 8 pm (Eastern) and are archived.

In August 2020 we produced our first major online all-day event—a 12-hour-long America’s Summer Roadtrip which features virtual tours to 12 historic sites and live Q&A with the staff of each one.

The following year we launched History Camp America—our first nationwide History Camp—an all-day event that included more than 25 sessions, a half-dozen tours of historic sites across the country, and exclusive access to replays for registrants.

In-person History Camps returned in 2022 with History Camp Boston 2022. In the fall, History Camp America 2022 welcomed participants from across the country for our second all day, all online History Camp with sessions on a wide variety of topics and behind-the-scenes tours of historic sites in the US and UK.

In May 2023, we introduced our first Pursuit of History Weekend with The Pursuit of History: Forging the Continental Army. This was an unparalleled opportunity for 40 people from across the country to experience a historic site and learn about the individuals involved in a way never offered before. The following day we held our first History Camp Valley Forge, and on Sunday, two tours were offered, “Forward Operating Base Valley Forge” and “Revolutionary Philadelphia.

In the fall, we held three days of events in Boston, starting with a reception for the 2023 Friends of History Camp Friday night, History Camp Boston 2023 Saturday, and two special tours Sunday, “The Maritime History of Boston and Salem” and “The Witch Trials: Salem Village and Salem Towne.”

In 2024 we held the first in our series of Pursuit of History Weekends for our nation’s 250th with The Pursuit of History: Rebellion in New England, which took place at Washington’s Headquarters in Cambridge and was attended by people from across the country. History Camp Boston 2024 set a new record for the number of presentations (50) and the number of special tours on Sunday (4). That October we held our first Pursuit of History Weekend outside of the East Coast with The Pursuit of History: Santa Fe.

In 2025 we held History Camp Boston 2025 with more than 400 people coming from 27 states across the country attending 50 sessions on a wide range of historical topics and four tours designed for History Camp attendees.

The Pursuit of History for America’s 250th continues with The Pursuit of History: The Outbreak of War in the Spring and The Pursuit of History: The Siege and Liberation of Boston in August. These are deep dive, history where it happened explorations of critical events in the formation of our nation 250 years ago. With two each year in different cities, these continue through 2033 and the 250th anniversary of the Treaty of Paris.
