When we had to cancel our in-person History Camps this year, we wanted to find a unique way to connect people to history and to historic sites across the country. The result was America’s Summer Roadtrip – a virtual history road trip that everyone could enjoy from their own homes. It took place on August 1 and it was a resounding success. We virtually visited 12 historic sites across the country, including sites that were well known and some that were not. We were blown away at the response! The historic sites were excited to be part of it, and viewers were thrilled to be able to see such a diverse group of historic sites, eras, and topics.

Here’s what a few viewers shared with us:

Thanks for the best day since my travel wings have been clipped. Keep up the great work!

— Pat S.

I have watched all of the programs today and have enjoyed the experience very much! I hope you will do this again.

As a senior who has been quarantined alone since March, this was a fun and informative day.

I don’t think I have been to any of these places and learned a tremendous amount. Thank you so much!

— Brenda L.

Amazing!  Counting the last episode, which is about to start, we’ve watched six of today’s programs.

Really tremendous, especially those lesser-known (but very important) sites. It was great to cross the country on this journey.

I ❤️ History! This was sensational.

— Terri E.

Our family watched the road trip together today. We are still talking about it through dinner, lots of lessons learned.

— Chad W.

We have received over 100 suggestions for historic sites to visit in the future and we’ve heard from many historic sites who would like to take part in it as well. We’re exploring ways to continue to bring this kind of programming to people and hope to do another Roadtrip next year.

If you watched, thank you for joining us! If you missed it, you can watch the tour videos at AmericasSummerRoadtrip.org. We’ll be adding the recorded Q&A videos to the site, as well as some resources for further learning and exploration, as soon as we can.
